Beauty & Essex

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but jaw-dropping celeb-adored dining destination Beauty & Essex in Hollywood is bound to impress. This glorious new 10,000sqft Rockwell Group-designed complex of deco salons, lounges and bars is entered via an upscale pawn shop, stocked with custom guitars, vintage jewellery and one-off collectibles.

Once inside, a huge, ornate double-height main dining hall beckons, decorated with peacock motifs and hung with trailing chandeliers, where chic tables and banquettes sport curves in all the right places. A 20-foot oval skylight floods the dark jewel-hued space with light. There’s also a sultry, more intimate private dining salon.

Completing the pleasure palace is a romantic ground-floor courtyard (boasting tiled floors, contempo chairs, and strings of lights), with a patio on the second level. It’s the debut alfresco area for the Tao Group, which also helms Beauty & Essex’s siblings in NY and Las Vegas.

B&E’s menu was conceived by Chris Santos, and stars his signature multi-ethnic meets American dishes: tuna poke wanton tacos; grilled cheese, smoked bacon and tomato soup dumplings; and oven-braised chicken meatballs (it shouldn’t work, but it does!). Indulge with oysters from the raw bar, ‘jewels on toast’, share plates, ‘accessories’ (sides), mains, prime meats or bonkers desserts. They serve gluten-free and vegan options, sexy cocktails and smart wines by the glass, and take reservations – now that’s beaut!
