Prepare to feel your sides split as the New York Comedy Festival (NYCF) rolls back into town from 7 until 12 November. Since picking the best comedy shows is actually a pretty serious business, here’s LUXE’s list of giggle-generating star acts. Warning: your chops may ache with mirth...

Tracy Morgan is teaming up with Cedric The Entertainer to present ‘A Toast to the OG’s of Comedy’ at NYU Skirball on 9 November. Audiences will be treated to a #nofilter night of unabashedly hilarious stand-up featuring Donnell Rawlings, Jak Knight, Derek Gaines, Tracey Ashley and Kevin Iso, including a sit-down chin-wag with Tracy and Cedric. These laughs come with a healthy conscience: proceeds from the event will go to the Fortune Society, a charity that supports ex-convicts’ successful reentry into society.

BFFS Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson – aka the 2 Dope Queens – are performing on 10 November at the Bell House in Brooklyn. Expect vegan, butt-plug, and therapy jokes: nothing is off-topic or off-limits. (If you want a preview, tune into the Queens’ famous weekly storytelling podcast.) While you’re in Brooklyn, have a bite to eat at Pok Pok, a divey East Coast offshoot of a Portland favourite. Expect regional and northern Thai flavours that wow, with plates inspired by Asian street markets and ambiance to match (there's a bamboo-fenced backyard). Everybody knows it’s silly to laugh on an empty stomach...

Got a soft spot for Sarah Silverman? Join the queue. If you needed proof that there’s something in the phrase ‘the more the merrier’, catch Sarah’s sociable NYCF 2017 show, in which she will share the stage with some of her funniest buddies. More details to come; watch this space...

Fans of Parks & Recreation will already have a comedic crush on hirsute actor, writer and – wait for it – woodworker Nick Offerman, who is bringing his acclaimed ‘Full Bush’ show to The Beacon Theatre on 11 November. If he doesn’t make you laugh, ask him to make you a canoe or ukulele, instead.

Hoot at NYC-native, boundary-pushing TV funnyman (he of Real Time, VICE, Religulous and so on) and smirking smug-mug Bill Maher on Saturday 11 November. ‘An Evening With Bill Maher’ will be hosted by the Theatre at Madison Square Gardens. Be there or be somewhere less acerbic. Fancy some pre-show fishy business? Have an early dinner at nearby North River Lobster Company: a former Florida gambling vessel spangled with New England charm and pants-dropper Manhattan views.

11 November is going to be a busy day for LOLs: it’s also when Iliza Shlesinger will be wooing crowds at the Town Hall with her new comedy hour, geared around the launch of her new book: Girl Logic. Since winning ‘Last Comic Standing’ in 2008, Iliza has gone from strength to funny strength; if you’re sitting in the audience in New York, you’ll be treated to a copy of her book, too...
