Hedonistic HideawayMarch 10, 2016
A black door marks the spot. Hidden behind it, down a creaky staircase, you’ll find Paris’ secret, seductive Blaine Bar. Getting in is not that easy though; you’ll need to whisper a password to gain entry into this glam speakeasy, then wander down a corridor and open a second door before discovering 1920s Chicago in full Prohibition swing.
Just a hop and a skip from the Champs-Elysées, on rue Pierre Charron in the 8th arrondissement, awaits this divine, dim-lit, moody new watering-hole, offering classic cocktails, live jazz, top DJ sets and a buzzy late-night ambience.
Bartenders sport smart white shirts, black waistcoats and ties, and fetching Fedoras, backlit by glowing shelves of liquor bottles. Spirits are yours to command, including a generous range of whisky, vodka, rum, gin and tequila, or get exotic with a well-crafted cocktail. ‘Byzantin’ teams Sailor Jerry rum with mint and fruity flavours; the ‘American Honeymoon’ blends whisky with honey, Earl Grey syrup, Creole bitters, and fruity, citrus notes.
Grab a spot at the counter or sink into velvet sofas to lounge with the beautiful people (aka your posse). Interiors conjure intimacy with vintage chandeliers, salon-style framed art and gilt-edged circular mirrors. To request the weekly-changing password, visit Blaine Bar’s Facebook page and send a private message. Just make sure you’re not followed and keep it to yourself (shhhhhh!).
