Paris’ Best Insta Film Frames

Invite to Cannes got lost in the post? Fret not! To celebrate the legendary film fest (17-28 May, 2017), LUXE reveals the most snap-worthy Paris locations for your own ‘auteur’ moment… Get that Insta feed going!

Dreamily coloured, ultra-romantic Parisian movie Amélie (2001), starring elfin Audrey Tautou, was shot around Montmartre and its iconic basilica Sacré-Coeur. Pose for a quirkily-cute pic here, then wander Square Louise Michel, home to the flick’s old-fashioned merry-go-round, before enjoying a crème brûlée at Café des Deux Moulins (15 rue Lepic), where Amélie waitressed.

Bustling Carré Marigny (9am-6.30pm Thu & Sat-Sun) is famous as an open-air market for sourcing collectible postage stamps, and for its cameo in classic film Charade (1963), in which Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn spy on James Coburn to a spooky circus soundtrack.

Fans of Richard Linklater’s Vienna-set Before Sunrise (1995) will adore follow-up Before Sunset (2004), in which Ethan Hawke (Jesse) and Julie Delpy (Celine) rekindle their romance in Paris. Cue walking and talking along elevated park Promenade Plantée, a 4.7km former rail trail from Bastille to Bel Air.

Jean-Luc Godard’s charming, radical French New Wave film À Bout de Souffle/Breathless (1960) saw thief Jean-Paul Belmondo and gamine-chic American Jean Seberg wander the Champs-Élysées together, where Seberg sells copies of The Herald Tribune before the stylish pair go on the run.

Pretty, historic bridge Pont Neuf, below Île de la Cité, is the sleeper star of Les amants du Pont-Neuf (1991), in which Juliette Binoche plays a blind woman who falls for a homeless alcoholic (Denis Lavant) while sleeping rough.

Double-decker steel bridge Pont de Bir-Hakeim, which crosses the Seine at Île aux Cygnes, was immortalised in Zazie dans le métro, (1960), Last Tango in Paris (1972) and Inception (2010), when Leonardo DiCaprio discusses dream sharing. An architectural must, it boasts cool Eiffel Tower views. Snap n’ share!
